Saturday, 8 October 2016

Peace all, the update is going to be short due to the severe tech issues we are experiencing atm. The Wastelands is hopefully back next weekend on our main machine. I need to keep this short due the lap top screen freezing and locking.

Tech Issues:-

* Back up lap top cannot handle running the show, it's already struggling.

* Unable to post or promote or do much on the back up lap top, screen locks/freezes.

* Ancient Visionz: site updates resume when PC is ready and repairs complete, Shepherd review finished & posted when we are back with PC.

Radio Shows:-

* Wastelands back asap when main machine has been repaired.

* Crimson Bones Thrash show is returning for a monthly edition.

* Underground Hip Hop show coming back, details soon.

* Ancient Visionz Talk Radio is now as & when, if there is a guest booked, the show will go live.

Monday, 3 October 2016

Peace all, just a reminder that all updates will return to the site when my PC has been repaired/fixed. It is difficult to post updates and do the shows on the back up lap top, and was a real struggle. Pat has posted a few new interviews/reviews, which are on the front page. Thx all. 1.

Narthraal interview is now up done by Patrick on 10-1-16

Hope  everyones  day  is  going  good?   Here  is  a  new  interview  with  the  Icelandic  old-school  death  metal  band  Narthraal   who  discuss  the  new E.P  and  future  full-length  coming  next  year  among  other  topics

Interview   with   Narthraal   done  by    Patrick

1.Hello   how  are  things  going with you  all  and the  band  these days?  Please  introduce yourselfs  to  the  readers?

Jónas: Hey Ancient Visionz zine.
The band consists of the guitarists Tony Aguilar and Birkir Kárason, bassist and singer, Viktor Penalver and me, Jónas Haux, the drummer.
Things have been doing pretty well over the last year. Birkir joined the band earlier this year.
When this is written, there are less than 3 weeks until we start recording our next album

2.At what age did you start listening to metal music? And who were some of the first bands you all listened to?

Jónas: I've listen to metal since I was five but it really didn't kick in until I was thirteen.
Among the I listened to were Metallica, Black Sabbath, System of a Down, Dimmu Borgir, Tesla and Twisted Sister.

Tony:  I think I was about 6-7 and it was Stay Hungy with Twisted Sister

Viktor: I guess around the age of 12 or 13 and the first bands that got me into metal were Metallica and Rammstein.

Birkir: When i was 3 years old my dad played godzilla by blue oyster cult for me and i loved it.
After that i quickly got into more and more bands, at five i was really into ac/dc, a year later i was a big metallica fan and after that the music kept getting heavier and heavier.
3.When did you first meet the other members of Narthraal ? Was it long before you all formed the band?
And how did you all choose the name Narthraal as the band name and does it have a special meaning?

Jónas: I knew the former guitarist (Kári Jónsson) for a few years before I joined the band and he invited me out for an audition, where I met Viktor and Tony.
I met Birkir probably first time when we played together in Akureyri (Birkir is also in a band called Úlfúð)

Tony: I first meet Viktor at Wacken 2012 and we realized we share the same interrest in metal, ie death metal and for some reason we decided to try and  start a band.
Jónas joined the band a year later after the band was formed and Birkir joined earlier this year. The name Narthraal is just something Viktor made up cause we didnt wanna
have the same name as another band, hehe.

Viktor: Well I first met Tony at Wacken Open Air 2012 and shortly after we decided to start a band, a year later we met our drummer Jónas and earlier this year we were joined by Birkir.

Birkir: I met them when narthraal and my other band Úlfúđ played a show in a bar called Íslenski Rokkbarinn, but later on i got to know them better at another show we played in Akureyri.
After playing a few shows together viktor contacted me when they had to look for a new lead guitarist in march 2016 and i joined quickly after that.

4.Narthraal just released a new E.P Chainsaw Killing Spree how long did it take the band to write the music for these songs?
Does the whole band work on writing the music or does one member usually write everything?

Tony: These songs took actually some time to be made. For example Descent into Darkness main riff had been floating around for ages till we finally decided to finish it.
Yes, the whole band writes the music but Viktor is the one writing the lyrics.
5.Where can the readers buy the new E.P? And is any other merchandise available for the readers if yes what is available?

Jónas: The album is on sale digitally on our bandcamp page but physical copy and a t-shirt can be bought at our facebook page.
The Narthraal water balloons is still only at discussion-stage.

6.I believe I read that the band is working on the debut full-length Any idea how many songs will be on the debut ? Will it be self-released or would you like to work with a label for the debut?

Tony: As it is it will be 10 or 11 songs and we are working with Inverse Records in Finland.
7.Do you know if it will be released on cd or cassette tape or vinyl formats or have you all discussed this yet?

Birkir: Probably only cd and digital format for now.

8.Does Narthraal get to play live very often and if yes what have been some of the bands most memorable shows so far?

Tony: I guess you could say that, though we could always play more, heheh. And I would say our gig at Eisntaflug was pretty memorable, its Icelands biggest festival.
Playing with Opeth, Meshuggah and Marduk to say the least.
9.Are their any upcoming tours or shows that the readers should watch out for?
If you could set up a dream show or tour who are some bands{past or present} you all would like to share the stage with?

Jónas: Unfortunately, no tour is planned. A dream tour for me would consist of Entombed, Bloodbath and Decapitated.

Tony: Since we are going into studio we havent really booked any gig except possibly a offvenue gig for Iceland Airwaves in the begining of November.
My dream gig would consist with Dismember, Entombed, Bloodbath and Death!

Viktor: Man, it'd be awesome to tour with Bloodbath, Entombed, Amon Amarth, Entrails and Dismember...

Birkir: Our dream show would most definitely consist of bloodbath, dismember and entombed!

10.Narthraal comes out of Iceland's metal scene I don't think I have heard many bands from Iceland. What is your opinion of Iceland's metal scene?

Jónas: Because Iceland is a small and isolated country, the genre that's popular at any given moment becomes big over most of the country,
but that's given since most metal shows in Iceland are just in two cities, along with Eistnaflug.
For example; death metal was big a few years ago while black metal is on the rise, and getting way more attention abroad than the death metal did.
I've been in the scene for 9 years and there have never been a shortage of good, active bands.

Tony: The metal scene here is pretty good I would say, though not perhaps for death metal.
But the black metal scene here is quite blooming at the moment with bands like Svartidauði, Misþyrming, Sinmara for example.

Viktor: There is definitely a thriving metal scene here in Iceland, most notably our black metal bands but we have some very great death metal bands aswell!

Birkir: When someone thinks about iceland's metal scene, the first bands that pop into everyones head are Skálmöld, Sólstafir and Dimma.
The scene is way too focused on those big bands and black metal in my opinion, death metal and other genres are pretty much the underdog.

11.Who are your all-time favorite Icelandic bands? And are their any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Jónas: Severed, Gone Postal, Momentum, We Made God, Misþyrming, Plastic Gods and Mínus.
For new ones or bands that recently released their debut I would say Zhrine, Grave Superior and Martröð.

Tony: Now thats a hard one to ask, I think I have to say Sólstafir. And if there is a new band I think everyone should check, then I would say Grave Superior and Urðun!

Viktor: I would have to say my all-time favorite Icelandic band would be Universal Tragedy.
And you dear readers should definitely keep your eyes open for our brothers from Grave Superior and Urðun!

12.Besides bands are their any good and reliable labels or distro's you can recommend to the readers?

Tony: I would say Oration Records if you are asking about only metal record labels.

13.Besides metal do any of the members of the band listen to any other forms of underground music?

Jónas: I'm getting a bit more into certain types of electronic music, dark synth and a few drum "n" bass bands.

Tony: I do enjoy drum n bass like Ed Rush and Optical, Source Direct and some old school hip hop like Three 6 Mafia, NWA etc.

Viktor: I can't speak for the others but I'm pretty much only listen to metal when it comes to the underground scene.

Birkir: Jónas likes doom.
14.We here at Ancient Visionz are huge movie fans do you all enjoy watching movies? If yes what are some of your all-time favorite movies?

Jónas: City of God, Pink Floyd: The Wall, Dr. Strangelove, Princess Mononoke, We Need to Talk About Kevin to name a few

Tony: Predator 1 and 2 and the Alien movies are my all time favorite!

Viktor: Shawshank Redemption, hands down.

Birkir: I never really think about favorites when i watch movies,
but the movie that i'll never get tired of and i've seen countless times is the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, it's a masterpiece!
15.Do you have any favorite actresses and actors?

Jónas: Tilda Swinton, Cary Grant, Jackie Chan, Queen Latifah, Emily Watson, Toshiro Mifune, Charles Bronson, Eva Green, etc.

Tony: Sir Ian McKellen, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman to name a few.

Viktor: You can't go wrong with Arnold Schwarzenegger! Also Robin Williams is always the best comedian in my opinion, he is sorely missed.
