Interview with Widow’s Peak done by Patrick posted on 4-13-18

Interview with Widow’s Peak done by Patrick

1. Hello Please introduce you to the readers and how are things going in Canada this week?
Hey there, I'm Chris and I play guitar in Widow's Peak. Things in Canada are cold as fuck, as per usual. Other than that, life is good!

2. When did you first start listening to metal music? Who were the first bands you discovered?

I discovered extreme metal when I was 12 years old, and stumbled upon the Christian metalcore band Blessthefall. I fell in love with the sound of the vocals, and started diving into heavier bands immediately, eventually getting sucked into death metal by Arch Enemy, Children of Bodom, and Job For A Cowboy.

3. When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you started Widow's Peak? What is the current line up of the band?

I met Scott Cressman (guitar, vocals) in April of 2016, and we met at a lube-wrestling event. He defeated me, and then lost to Matt Yeomans (vocals) shortly thereafter, and then we found Mike Jones (bass) and Patricio Cereceda-Paulsen (drums) when they performed as a two-piece Aqua cover band.

4. Who would you say are Widow's Peak biggest influences?

Cannibal Corpse, Ingested, Meshuggah, Beyond Creation, and Cryptopsy. We like fast and heavy shit, for the most part, though we all like lots of music outside of metal, too.

5. Graceless is the debut CD release how long did it take the band to write the music for the debut?

About a year, we really took our time writing the EP. We weren't doing anything publicly as a band yet, so we had no reason to rush.

6. Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the band and what are some topics you wrote about on Graceless?

Matt and I both tag team the lyrics. The lyrics on Graceless are a little all over the place, but everything orbits around the idea of extreme violence. In CBT we wrote about genital mutilation, in Graceless we wrote about suicide. Really anything that strikes us as interesting is fair game when it comes to writing. We have some newer, unreleased songs that push things even further, which will be interesting to get out there.

7. I believe Graceless is self-released would you like to find a label to work with or do you prefer self releasing your music?

Yeah, Graceless is self-released. We're definitely open to working with a label, but obviously it's all about the details. Having some more money behind us to tour, record, and print merch would obviously be great, but I, personally, am a bit of a control freak, so it would have to be a careful balance. Any label that tries to tell us we can't spend our budget on Naked Kombat gambling rings is immediately off the list.

8. Does Widow's Peak play live very often or do you prefer to work in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows?

We hate recording! We're a live band through and through. In 2017 we played around Alberta quite a bit, and we're hoping to get even further away from home later this year. Back in September (I think?) we were fortunate enough to open for the mighty Archspire with Reaping Asmodeia, which was a real blast. We always have fun playing live, though, so it's hard to really single out our favourite moments. Our friend Adam from False Flag spread his asshole for a free shirt at our first show, though, so that might actually be our top moment so far.

9. Are there any tours or shows planned in support of Graceless? If yes where will the band be playing and who will you be sharing the stage with?

Yes, we'll be sharing the stage with Path To Extinction, Protosequence, Anti-Pattern, and Meggido on April 27th at Distortion here in Calgary. That's going to be the actual release show, and then we're working on some stuff for this summer. We'll be playing Calgary's first annual Decimate Metalfest in June, and Metallion Festival in August as well, which are going to be ragers.

10. Besides the Graceless release does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers? If yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

Yeah, we have shirts, longsleeves, CDs, patches, and pins, which people can find on our Bandcamp page, or at our shows. Check it out here: https://wpdm.bandcamp.com/merch

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Canada? And are there any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

Well if we aren't just talking about metal, I'd have to say Matthew Good Band, Sarah McLachlan, and Rush. If we're talking metal, I'd say Cryptopsy, Exit Strategy, and Archspire. Up-and-coming bands that I have to mention are Anti-Pattern (insane instrumental tech), Protosequence (more dope ass tech), Apollyon (brutal death with some proggy feeling stuff) and Subsume (proggy crooning meets Tool-ish rhythms).

12. When not working on new music or band business what do you like to do like to do in your free time?

We go to a LOT of local shows. I check out 1-3 per week, and outside of that I mostly just play and teach guitar, collect records, and write music. The other guys are into nerd shit like World of Warcraft and anime, but not me. I'm cool. Same with Pat; he does Muay Thai and works out, so I stay on his good side.

13. Besides metal music do you or the other members listen to any other forms of underground music? If yes who are some of your favorite artists and bands?

Yeah, we love all kinds of music. I, personally, really like a band from BC called Snur. They're like weird Incesticide/Bleach-y Nirvana vibes, but more chaotic. There's also a band from Edmonton called The Wet Secrets that I'm really into, but I don't even know how to describe them.

14. Besides music we are big movie fans here do you enjoy watching movies? Do you have a favorite movie genre?

I don't have the attention span for visual media; I'm too squirmy. When I can force myself to get through it, I like horror movies though.

15. What are some of your all-time favorite movies?

August Underground, The Suicide Tourist, various documentaries on Boedil Joensen, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Evil Dead.

16. Who would you say are some of your favorite actresses and actors? Are there any directors you enjoy watching?

I like Lars Von Trier films, and the old Dogma 95 movement. I don't really have any favourite actors or actresses, though. Maybe guys like Diesel Washington, JJ Knight, and Carter Dane.

17.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final comments for the readers?

If anyone out there has seen a purple Tamagotchi on 17th Ave SW in Calgary, give me a call. My baby boy is probably cold, hungry, and needs to be changed. Trevor, if you're reading this: come home. Daddy misses you.

Interview with Sense Of Fear done by Patrick

1.Hello Please introduce yourself to the readers and how are things going in Greece this week?

Hello Patrick, my name is Ioannis and I am the founder and the one of the guitar players of Sense Of Fear. The things in Greece are tough. The entire world, I think, knows our financial problems and the difficulties in our country. But we are still strong and we are fighting.

2.When did you first start listening to rockNroll and heavy metal music? Who were the first bands you discovered?

I was 10 years old when I took in my hands the Metallica’s “Black Album” from my father and gave it a listen. I was thrilled from the first song, I remember. It was a very strong punch in my head and it still is ahhahha. My first beloved band was Iron Maiden.

3.When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you started Sense Of Fear? What is the current lineup of the band?

The drummer of the band Markos is my brother so I know him from my first breath in this world ahahhahha. When I was 13 I met Themis in school and we became best friends. It took us only 6 months after our friendship to create our first band which called Holy Prophecy and renamed after 3 years into Sense Of Fear. Our current line up is Me and Themis on the guitars, Markos on drums, Dimitris on bass and Ilias on vox.

4.Who would you say are Sense Of Fear's biggest influences?

We have a big range of influences. Sure our biggest influences are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Nevermore, Pantera but also from more extreme metal genres such as Thrash(Slayer, Anthrax, etc) and Black metal(Rotting Christ)

5.As The Ages Passing by is the band’s debut release how long did it take the band to write the music for the debut?

You will hear songs from 1998 till 2015 ahhahha. We create our first album with the thinking to show to the world also and the history of the band all these years.

6.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the band and what are some topics you wrote about on As The Ages Passing By?

Me and Ilias are usually writing the lyrics. We write on how is our Perspective of the world and how we fight the daily difficulties and also about personal experiences and emotions.

7.Does Sense Of Fear play live very often or do you prefer to work in the studio? What have been some of the bands most memorable shows?

We play very often live shows because we love to put out all our energy from the album to our fans. It is very important for us. One of the most memorable shows was when we supported Warrel Dane in his solo career. We also played many Greek fests and we have supported many Greek big names.

8.Are there any tours or shows planned in support of As The Ages Passing By?If yes where will the band be playing and who will you be sharing the stage with?

We will tour in many cities here in Greece like Ioannina, Athens, Thessalonikh, Larisa, Agrinio, Trikala. The most of the shows are Headline but in some cities we will share the stage with big names from Greece.

9.Besides the As The Ages Passing By release does the band have any other merchandise available for the readers? If yes what is available and where can the readers buy it?

Will be available for the audience T-shirts and zipp jackets but after the release of the album. Everyone can purchase these items from our official web site and from our page in Facebook.

10.Sense Of Fear comes out of the Greek heavy metal scene what is your opinion of Greece's heavy metal scene?

Today the Greek scene is stronger than ever. There are plenty of good bands here in Greece which are more than worth hearing.

11.Who are your all-time favorite bands coming out of Greece? And are there any new bands you feel the readers should check out soon?

My all-time favorites are Rotting Christ, Firewind, Innerwish, Diviner, Conviction. You can also check Night Threat, Exile Of Heaven, Meden Agan, Dark nightmare, Ragenheart. They are all great bands.

12.When not working on new music or band business what do you like to do like to do in your free time?

Usually I am practicing in my guitar which is something I love to do but with my job and my family I have not a lot of free time. Of course I am listening music from the time I am awake till I go to sleep again ahhahhah.

13.Besides metal music do you or the other members listen to any other forms of underground music? If yes who are some of your favorite artists and bands?

Well I love Metal music and I am looking always for new bands but as a guitar player I like to experiment to other music genres such as blues, jazz, funk, soul, Latin etc.

14.Besides music we are big movie fans here do you enjoy watching movies? Do you have a favorite movie genre?

I am also big fan of films and series. I love films like Lord Of The Rings, all Marvel and DC movies, funny and comedies of course and I am big big fan of Game Of Thrones and Walking Dead.

ANCIENT VISIONZ BLOG LIVE AGAIN

Recently I tried to redesign the blog and try a few new themes, none of which really offered much other than electronic scrolling paint roll. In the end I went back to the original theme and changed a few areas, but it is more or less the same.

The new themes I experimented with removed the hyper links from many previous posts, but I'll attempt to re-add them, but this could take a long time and I may not be able to get to every single post. Yes all of our interviews, reviews, the entire links have vanished. The joy of diy.

Anyway the site is live again.

ANCIENT VISIONZ BLOG UNDERGOING AN UPDATE (CLOSED TO PUBLIC VIEW)

The blog is undergoing an update and is closed to public view until work has finished. Ancient Visionz Radio is on temporary hiatus whilst I take a much needed break.
