1. How would you describe your music?

Hi everyone. Tough question. We would like someone doing this for us. We really do not want to be limited to any metal subgenre but we really do heavy metal stuff with a clear doom direction but also taking ingredients from other subgenres such as hard rock or stoner metal among others. I think that all band members’ musical background is present in our music. Our music is balanced by dark riffs and catchy melodies. Maybe we are creating a new genre, maybe something like Catchy Doom, or Happy Doom (like seeing the end of times but with a smile in our faces). Hahahaha.

2. What gave you the idea for the single title?

Well, Hug Ballesta is a great fanatic of the ancient stuff, occultism, mythology, etc. Sons of Saturn is a tribute to those cults in ancient Rome which were destroyed or assimilated by and for Christianity.

The Christians were an extremely violent sect, and killed a lot other followers of the pagan rituals, and Sons of Saturn speaks of the cult of Saturn, but also of the cult of Mithra which is essentially what Christianity is based on, and from whom they stole his identity. Saturn also refers to the Roman cult of the Greek god Cronos, the god of time and who decides when it will be the day of our death and the end of times. Just remember "Tempus fugit!"

3. Do you work together with others in the writing process?

Well, it depends on the song. Some of them are well developed ideas from Cristian or Charlie but these are the oldest songs such as “Kings”, “The Pyre”, “Protective Fire” or “Sons of Saturn”. However, these songs have been evolved to the final version on the album during the rehearsals. Other songs have started with a pair of riffs of Charlie, we play them in the rehearsals and Cristian, who is an extremely talented musician, complete them at home. Hug is the quality filter and his suggestions are of a really good taste leading the songs to its final version. Now Caio, who has recently joined the band is participating in providing new textures on live gigs and the new songs we are working on.

4. How much time to do you take record songs?

The entire recording process (including mixing) took two weeks. We went to Moontower studios and his awesome technician Javi FĂ©lez made us feel quite comfortable. Things flowed naturally and the recording process was incredibly easy. Javi is a master !!!

5. Does this release differ from past music releases? How?

Well, this is actually our first record. We recorded two demo songs in the past with a more Proto-metal or Stoner oriented sound. Obviously, the recording process was completely different. DIY Home-studio !!! Nothing to do with a professional studio.

6. Do you like to change it up for each release with lyrical themes?

The themes in your lyrics are different, but essentially those are based in your philosophy on life, our vision of a decadent world and to report all the shit in the human condition. We speak also about ancient cultures which were essentially better than the one we are living in, or about strange cults and lost wisdom. But we always will write it in a symbolic way.

7. Where do you draw your influences and inspirations from?

As I mentioned before we have a wide musical background within the band. Extreme metal, classic heavy metal, stoner metal, post-rock, hard rock, alternative rock, goth metal and obviously doom metal. All these styles converge at we are really doing within Black Lotus. Making a list of bands could be very obvious. Listen to our album and guess which they are…

8. What has been the most enjoyable thing you have done as a musician/singer?

Everyone of us have taken part in other projects in the past but I think I can talk on behalf of my colleagues that issuing this first Black Lotus release and the corresponding promotional shows are the most exciting things we are experiencing as musicians.

9. What do you feel is the biggest challenge going forward with your career?

A big challenge will be selling thousands of records and performing for big audiences at festivals and the best concert halls worldwide. Just daydreaming, but being more modest, keeping creativity for recording more albums and increasing our fan base will be sufficiently satisfying.

10. What do you enjoy outside of music?

Common activity within band members is beer drinking!!!! Hahahaha. Among us there are comic freaks, movie and book predators and vinyl and CD collectors but what we most enjoy is listening to music and attending live performances. Music is the center of our universe.

Thanks for letting us share our music with your readers. Hope to see you soon someday somewhere.
