INTERVIEW WITH INFERNAL CULT (BLACK METAL)

Answered by Martjern

1. How would you describe your music?
Infernal Cult represents the Negativity and true Evil within a man... The music is the expression of specific negative feelings... The main message is to make people devour into their own sources of desperation which they can find in music. My goal is to find closest connection between the things inside me and outside world.

2. What gave you the idea for the single title?
Album title represents the situation when you are in the end with your forces and you have nowhere to go so “All the Lights Faded” for you and you fell into dark with your life... All the titles are about negativity and have the hemes of the songs hidden in them...

3. Do you work together with others in the writing process?

Infernal Cult is a solo project. I am responsible for every note and every lyrical content... I want to give a piece of me to every song I create and I think I will never let somebody in...

4. How much time to do you take record songs?
Recording is always a pretty fast process... But It is changing during the time... I am recording, mixing and mastering everything so I have total control...When I was making older releases, I usually wrote a song, and right after It was done, I recorded It. Now on the album, I gave much more time to creative process and I recorded all the songs at once... Whole process took about 2-3 weeks...

5. Does this release differ from past music releases? How?

Of course...Older releases were very different...The style of playing and the main message... In the past I wanted to play old school black metal with classic influences like Urgehal, Taake, Tsjuder, Endezzma, etc... But after some time I just wanted to create my unique form of expression and to cross all the borders in creating so the process of making music changed too... When I was writting music before I was just inspired by classic style of playing and took those elements into my own riffs and music...The album was made differently... I use only riffs which came from nothing and the closest to the feelings I wanted to express. I call It “Impulses from nothingness”... I write 5 songs in 5 days before....Now, the making of one song took one month... I really tried many different styles of playing and trying to find the best for me...

6. Do you like to change it up for each release with lyrical themes?

Yes. The lyrics are depend on the message and the theme of the music and it is changing and every song is about something different so the lyrics have to fit...and the main themes of my music were changing during the time so the lyrics with it as well... Infernal Cult went through really big progress with the main goals and themes... Before It was more about Nature, Darkness in general and hate but now, the lyrical themes are more about my personal things...

7. Where do you draw your influences and inspirations from?

All the influences and inspirations came from my real personal experiences... The album was written in really dark episode of my life and I wanted to catch those feelings with my music... The themes are mostly about Solitude, Despair, Self–destruction, Depression, and emptiness...I was in really bad situation and I though there will be no solution...And all this things that I felt and I had to move trough climaxed to suicide attempt...So the music is mainly from this period of time...But It is different... All songs are connected to something that happenned to me or they are about my views of life and living...Everything is real and nothing is pretended... Everything in the album is confirmed by acts... I don’t copy anything or make my music based of someone else’s vision like most bands do today... Everything is based on my own visions and situations...

8. What has been the most enjoyable thing you have done as a musician/singer?

I really like creating music and the slow process when the things come together and create whole complete piece... It is really satysfing thing ... But to be honest there is nothing concrete that I would said I enjoy “more”.... I enjoy the whole process because I always try to do things differenty and to make steps forward... Maybe in 2015 when I was recording my vocals, I had to do it in my pantry so that was pretty good but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it 😀

9. What do you feel is the biggest challenge going forward with your career?
I am in the beggining now but I have my personal goals which I want to reach, so It will be hard way to make every single one done but now, I’ve done and reach everything I wanted but there are many things I want to reach in my music career but I’m going grimly for what I want and I will never give up so hopefully I complete everything I want

10. What do you enjoy outside of music?
Music is on the first place and take most of my time but I love Art in general... beside of music I do graphic design and I make my own illustrations and stuff like that... I also love paintings, photography and going in the nature where I can feel more isolated...
