1. How would you describe your music?
KIARA: I’ve always been involved in heavy metal and rock music. I used to be involved more in symphonic metal but now it’d definitely hard rock with female vocals, if I had to simplify it. My influences go from death metal to classical music and I do take inspiration from so many genres. Something I’ve always liked are catchy choruses. I like when a chorus gets stuck into my head.

2. What gave you the idea for the single title?
KIARA: I guess the song decided itself hahaha. When the lyrics got laid down it was pretty obvious that ‘Luv Calamity’ was gonna be the title of that song.

3. Do you work together with others in the writing process?
KIARA: I never worked together in the same room with other songwriters, but more I wrote something then emailed it and went back and forth from there. The backbone of the song is usually drawn this way, then we meet and work further on it.

4. How much time to do you take to record songs?
KIARA: For the vocal part it usually takes me three to four hours. For instruments, it really depends on the type of song and how many different instruments there are. Instruments are not usually recorded on the same day and are not recorded altogether. A whole album takes three to six months to record, mix and master.

5. Does this release differ from past music releases? How?
KIARA: For me it does. My albums with Skylark were symphonic power metal, while ‘Fight Now’ my solo album produced David DeFeis was pure heavy metal. This new album ‘Bulletproof’ is really a different genres, it’s hard rock as I said, so the type of music is different. Lyrics are always pretty personal like most of my lyrics. ‘Bulletproof’ is also different in the way I recorded it, as, for the first time, I recorded all my vocals myself. It was pretty hard to do and probably I won’t do it for the next album, but nevertheless it was a very intimate experience.

6. Do you like to change it up for each release with lyrical themes?
KIARA: I actually follow my instincts and what’s in my soul in that period of time. I never plan my lyrics, they’re all spontaneous.

7. Where do you draw your influences and inspiration from?
KIARA: Everyday life, what happens in my head, what I think, how I feel. Music is a very personal space for me that sometimes I’m even scared to share it with others.

8. What has been the most enjoyable thing you have done as a musician/singer?
KIARA: Playing in Japan several times, visiting many countries over the world, sharing the stage with artists I’ve always been a fan of…

9. What do you feel is the biggest challenge going forward with your career?
KIARA: Finding people in the industry who believe in me. So far I’ve always believed in myself but never found someone who’s truly helped me in my career.

10. What do you enjoy outside of music?
KIARA: I love the ocean and sailing. I’m enamoured of beauty products so I go to a SPA whenever I can. I love art, painting or going to museums. I also love yoga and meditation.
