Interview with Laceration done by Patrick

1.Hello please introduce yourself to the readers?
Hey there, I’m Luke Cazares, guitar/vocals in Laceration.

2.When did you first start listening to metal music and who were the first bands that you listened to? Who are some of your current favorite bands?

I started listening to metal on my own when I was probably 12. I bought “Rust in Peace” at Walmart, plus having an older brother and a Mom that were into Metallica helped nicely. Some current and all-time favorite metal bands for me would include:
Death, Monstrosity, Cist, Mortal Wound, Demolition Hammer, Malevolent Creation, Judas Priest, Suffocation, Vio-lence.

3.When did you first meet the other members of the band and was it long before you all started Laceration?
Well, Corey Toleu and I started Laceration in 2006. We met when we were still in high school. I met Michael Simon in 2010 and Donnie Small in 2012 or somewhere around then.

4.What is the current line up of the band? And for the readers who have never heard Laceration's music how would you best describe it?
Current lineup is me, Corey Toleu (Bass), Donnie Small (Lead Guitar) and Michael Simon (Drums). Our music would be best described as Death/Thrash Metal.

5. Laceration will release a compilation of all their early material including a demo,EP. and their songs from their split release. The cd release will be released through Unspeakable Axe Rec. in early Febuary when did you and the band first come in contact with this label?
I first started talking to Eric (UAR) in 2012-13? He wanted to do this compilation that we’ve been talking about, but at the time we had just broken up and it just never went into motion. He contacted me again in late 2017 and at that time Corey and I were really thinking about trying to start the band back up. So, we decided to go forward with the compilation and began jamming again.

6.Besides the upcoming release does the band have any other merchandise availible for the readers to buy? If yes what is availible and where can the readers purchase it?
Yes, we do! So, among this release of “old Laceration” under our “old logo”, we have recently started the band back up. Don’t be confused though, we revised our logo under this new lineup and have released a 3-track demo called “Imitation”. It is available on our page along with digital downloads, shirts, tapes, etc.

7.Does Laceration get the opportunity to play live very often? If yes what have what have been some of the bands most memorable shows so far? Who have been some bands you have shared the stage with?
We try and play live as often as possible, but we have mainly been focusing on writing lately.
Some memorable shows would include playing with Evil Dead in 2010,

and recently playing the Skeletal Remains “Devouring Mortality” album release show in LA.

8.Are their any shows or tours planned in 2019 in support of the upcoming release? If yes where will the band be playing?
No tours planned at the moment, however, we’re going up to Portland in 2019 and will be mainly focusing on our full-length album. When that’s out, we will be putting together a west coast tour hopefully!

9.Has Laceration started working on new material for the next release and will it be a full length or EP.?How long does it take the band to complete one song?
Yeah, we’re almost done writing, and it will be a full-length album which will be a first for us. It depends, we can take a month or two weeks to write a song. We take our time with writing.

10.Who usually handles writing the lyrics for the music and where do you draw inspiration for the lyrics?
I handle all the lyrical writing. I draw inspiration from life and reality, although sometimes inspiration from horror movies or imaginative circumstances. Mainly real-life events and the human psyche.

11.Besides thrash and death metal do you or any of the members of the band listen to any other underground genres? If yes what genres do you listen to and who are some of your favorite artists and bands?
We all listen to a pretty wide variety of musical genres, I personally listen to a lot of New Wave, 80’s Punk, d-beat, Jazz, Gangster rap, nwobhm, Buckethead, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, etc.

12.When you need to take a break from working on new music or band business what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy being with my wife and son when I’m not doing band or work stuff.

13.Besides working in Laceration do you or any of the other members currently work with any other bands or solo projects?
Michael and Donnie both have other bands outside of Laceration, Michael does his own band, Cerebral Engorgement, entirely by himself plus drumming in the Bay Area brutal death metal band Splattered. Donnie plays lead guitar in the technical thrash band Trecelence, also a local Bay Area band.

14.Besides music we are huge movie fans here do you enjoy watching movies? If yes what is your favorite movie genre?
Of course, we like movies we’re not corpses yet! Can’t say I have a favorite movie genre,
Pretty much love all as long as they’re creatively done well, but of course 70’s – 80’s, non-CGI, horror movies reign supreme.

15.What are your all-time favorite movies and what are some of your current favorite movies?
One of my all-time favorite movies… John Carpenter’s The Thing, Alien, Predator, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Some current favorites would include Mandy and Mother!

16.Thank you for taking the time to fill this interview out do you have any final words for the readers?
Thanks to everyone who is still supporting us, keep an ear out for the upcoming compilation and especially our newest stuff and future full length!
