Interview w/ Immortal Synn (Heavy Metal)

All questions answered by Tony Z of Immortal Sÿnn

1.    How would you describe your music?
 - We are a mix of traditional heavy metal with thrash and hard rock influences.

2. What gave you the idea for the single title?
 - As of this writing, our current single is “Fight Back”. Our last singer, Chase McClellan, came up with the title. It was referring to how society and the government push against us every day, and there comes a time when we all need to fight back.

3. Do you work together with others in the writing process?
 - There are a handful of songs where we have all collaborated as a group, but for the most part, we write individually then present our songs to the group and make (usually) minor changes from there.

4. How much time to do you take to record songs?

 - It all depends on the studio. The last one we went to would sometimes take months to record one song. “Fight Back” was recorded and mixed/mastered in just 3 days at our new studio.

5. Does this release differ from past music releases? How?

 - “Fight Back” shows a move toward a faster, much heavier and thrash-influenced sound than our previous endeavors.

6. Do you like to change it up for each release with lyrical themes?

 - Aside from our first EP, we’ve always wanted to include political songs on our releases for at least a few songs, then whatever tickles our fancy at the time.

7. Where do you draw your influences and inspirations from?
 - Personally, I draw my influence from many genres of music - from the first written history of music up to contemporary artists in almost all genres. I even try to incorporate things from genres I do not like if I see that other people may enjoy it.

8. What has been the most enjoyable thing you have done as a musician/singer?
 - Probably going on our first tour this past summer. It was extremely stressful in the weeks leading up to it, but once we were on the road, it was awesome. I loved bringing my music to people all across the country.

9. What do you feel is the biggest challenge going forward with your career?

 - As of right now, finding an awesome singer. If you didn’t know, Chase quit a couple months ago. He was awesome, and we wish him well with his future projects. The singer is usually one of the most well-known members of the band, so finding someone that will not only mesh well with us, but with the audience, too is one of our biggest challenges currently.

10. What do you enjoy outside of music?

 - I used to be really big into the party and club scene, but as of late I enjoy working at my job outside of the band (building maintenance), and watching TV, reading, and walking outside. Driving around aimlessly is also a huge thing that I’ve enjoyed since I got my license.
